Solaris
When
Sun Microsystems needed a name for a new workstation, they contracted
with Libretto to generate a series of candidates. Libretto brainstormed
a number of ideas, focusing on names that would help extend and
enhance the equity of Sun Microsystems master brand.
The client gravitated quickly to the name Solaris, the
Latin word for sun. Due to a shift in the clients
product marketing strategy, Sun eventually decided to market
the new workstation as the 386i. However, the company later adopted
the Solaris name for its version of the UNIX operating system. Almost 15
years later, Solaris remains one of the most widely recognized
brands in the technology industry.
