Harvard University/UIS

Harvard’s University Information Systems (UIS) consists of several internal groups that collaborate to provide critical technology and infrastructure services to the Harvard University community. Over time, UIS had evolved a sprawling website that was difficult to both navigate and manage. When UIS hired Libretto to redo the site, the planning team asked us to:

  • Provide a user-friendly navigation scheme and focused, relevant content

  • Convey the image of a single, unified services group

  • Create a framework that would make it easy to add and update information

Working closely with our design partner, Forsythe Design, Libretto developed a robust information architecture that organizes the content into seven micro-sites, which are based on broad categories of service rather than individual business units. Libretto wrote more than 400 pages of content for the site and helped to map the multiple navigation mechanisms that allow users to quickly “drill down” to specific information.
