Whitehead Institute-MIT BioImaging Center
The Whitehead Institute-MIT BioImaging Center is a groundbreaking “virtual
institution” that brings together a diverse group of MIT
faculty, researchers, and students who apply sophisticated imaging
techniques and computational methods to increase understanding
of complex cellular processes. The BioImaging Center website needed
to:
-
Describe the process of biological
imaging to those unfamiliar with the tools and
techniques of the discipline
-
Eventually serve as a portal for fielding
service requests and providing researchers
worldwide with remote online
access to
powerful microscopes
The highly interactive site required text that spoke
both to the uninitiated and to the experienced biological imaging
practitioner.
This required that Libretto be able to absorb and understand
highly technical information. After several meetings with the
director
of the BioImaging Center and a graduate research fellow, we wrote
the various pages and descriptions of animations derived from
actual experiments. Crafted in collaboration with Interactive
Factory,
our design partner, the site positions the BioImaging Center
at the forefront of this revolutionary technology and provides
a virtual
headquarters for its various activities.
“We wanted to tell a single story that different people
could understand. From our initial discussions, Libretto quickly
and accurately
drafted text that achieved this goal. The process went very smoothly because
of their ability to absorb and then distill the science.”
