Revit

When Charles River Software was preparing to launch an innovative software platform for the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry, Libretto was asked to rename the company and to name the new software. Combining 3D modeling with 2D drafting, the program integrates creative design and time documentation features that increase flexibility, productivity, and cost management for architects, engineers, and contractors.

Because of the broad capabilities of this product, the name would have to appeal to both construction managers and architects. Libretto coined a name that would reflect this revolutionary capability: Revit. Shorthand for “revise it,” the name implies a tangible action while also alluding to forward motion (“rev” it). The name was deemed so powerful that it was adopted as the name of the company as well.

Revit was acquired by Autodesk in 2002.
