In the winter of 2019, the Boston Symphony Orchestra announced the debut of the Tanglewood Learning Institute (TLI), an immersive series of programs and events created for a diverse audience of music lovers.

TLI’s mission is to provide joyful, stimulating, and thought-provoking experiences that inspire participants to explore their world through the lens of music.

The prospect of working on the TLI launch was music to our ears. Libretto had an established track record with the BSO, having provided the theme, messaging, and supporting content for their highly successful Beyond Measure campaign, which raised more than $400 million. For this engagement, we drafted high-level messaging for the initiative, wrote the content for ads that appeared in the New York Times and The New Yorker, and created a theme line for the launch: “Unleash Your Curiosity.” We also assisted with the naming of a number of TLI’s programs, including Full Tilt, a groundbreaking performance series; Meet the Makers, a public conversation between audience members and world-class artists; Cinematics, a film series offered in conjunction with the BSO’s concert programming; and The Big Idea, a series of talks by acclaimed thinkers and luminaries such as former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and renowned biographer Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Libretto also contributed content and a series of blog entries to TLI’s website to promote programs and performances in celebration of their inaugural summer. TLI officially opened its doors on June 22; we’re honored to have played a part in the rollout of an initiative that fuses tradition and innovation, humanity and imagination, and familiar faces and under-represented voices.
