As America’s longest-running arts organization, the Handel and Haydn Society sought to elevate their artistic quality, engage a broader audience, and sustain H+H’s excellence into the future.

Building off our earlier partnership on the Instrumental Voices campaign, H+H turned to Libretto for a second time to develop a theme and messaging for this audacious initiative to raise $50 million.

We began our engagement with in-depth discovery sessions, where board members, major donors, long-time subscribers, and community members reflected on the qualities of H+H that keep them engaged season after season. We found that the passion and exuberance projected from the stage at every performance is matched only by the ardent enthusiasm that supporters feel for H+H. Across the board, stakeholders feel deep, personal connections to H+H, which they attribute to the intimate scale of the ensemble and organization, and the strong emphasis on community and inclusivity. These ideas formed the basis of the messaging platform Libretto developed for the campaign, which supports the campaign’s goals of expanding H+H’s audience while extending their legacy of artistic quality.

The theme we developed—You Are the Music—is an invitation and a rallying cry that emphasizes the community-driven nature of both the campaign and H+H’s mission more broadly. During the campaign launch at the start of the 2024-2025 season, staff wore buttons that proclaimed “I Am the Music,” and audience members were encouraged to consider how they contribute to H+H’s inclusive mission.

You Are the Music represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity for passionate music lovers to secure the future of Baroque and Classical music in Greater Boston. Through our work, we’re proud to help ensure H+H remains a pillar of excellence in the arts for decades to come.
